🌟 New Research Breakthrough in Mental Health for Gender-Based Violence Survivors and Sex Workers in Myanmar🌟

We are bursting with pride to share and celebrate a groundbreaking study led by our team, Yangon School of Social Work. This isn't just a publication; it's a story of how local knowledge, global partnership, and evidence-based care are creating lasting change.

This project explored a short-term, EMDR-informed group trauma intervention to alleviate PTSD among women in Myanmar. It stands as one of the few randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on community-level trauma treatment in the country's history.

But the most powerful finding isn't just in the data—it's in what happened next. 💁

The local team trained during the project has continued to implement the intervention successfully, providing critical mental health support to the community in the wake of the recent earthquake. ✨

This is the ultimate validation of our "task-sharing" model: building local capacity that endures and adapts to meet new crises.

📄 Published Research: Randomized Controlled Trial on the Healing Drawing Procedure (HDP) Group Trauma Treatment Intervention.

🎯 The Goal:To prove that effective, scalable mental health care can be delivered by trained local providers.

Key Findings:

✅ Major PTSD Reduction: The therapy significantly lowered trauma symptoms.

✅ Long-Lasting Results: Improvements held strong three months later.

✅ Safe and Gentle: No harmful side effects were reported.

✅Local Providers, Expert Care: Proved trained community members can effectively deliver the treatment.

✅Empowered a Local Workforce: Frontline workers gained skills and confidence to serve their community.

We are profoundly grateful to every survivor who trusted the process, every frontline provider who dedicated their skill, and every researcher who contributed their expertise. Your collective courage and commitment are building a more resilient future for Myanmar. 💛
